Material Exploration of soft actuators as tangible interface elements. This work is in collaboration with Ozgun Kilic Afsar and Wedyan Babatain.
As part of a class called How to make (almost) anything, I experimented with physical actuation triggered by an digital interface. The circuit that controls the actuation is controlled by a web-interface.
Since the actuation is controlled through electrical current, it can be tuned very precisely.
This material-based interface can be used to for example to reveal an image.
Through mechanical constraint, the acceleration of actuation can be adjusted. In this case, it mimics the movement of a fly trap.
On an architectural scale, it can also be used as a shade.
